Prerequisites:
- Wall surface is smooth and at the desired level of finish.
- Wall is already painted and/or primed.
Materials:
- Lime-Prep Primer
- Block brush
- Limewash
- Densifier
Application Instructions:
-
Prime:
- Apply Lime-Prep Primer to the wall using a block brush
- Ensure even coverage, but avoid excessive application
- Allow 24 hours for the primer to dry completely
-
Apply Limewash:
- Work in sections, maintaining a wet edge at all times
- Apply limewash in a consistent pattern (e.g., top to bottom, left to right) or create clouded areas that you blend together for a more mottled finish
- Avoid retouching dried areas
- Feather the edges lightly into the existing wet edge
- Apply 1-2 coats of limewash
-
Apply Densified Coat:
- Mix 1 part Densifier with 4 parts limewash (ensure that you do not mix more than 1:4 ratio)
- Complete the final layer of Densified limewash as you did the previous layers
Important Notes:
- Limewash will exhibit color variations if touched up or applied inconsistently
- Do not cut in the edges of the limewash like standard paint
- Always work with a wet edge to ensure smooth, even coverage
- Limewash application technique dramatically impacts the overall finish of the limewash
- Begin with a sample jar and sample board to determine which application method works best for your design goals
